ELECTION IN BIHAR

 These are election times in Bihar- one of the worst managed provinces in India. This province has extremely low literacy , extremely high unemployment and hence abject poverty. In terms of population it is the third most populous province in India. Bad healthcare coupled with pandemic has already put thousands in bad condition. COVID19 entered this province rather late when migrant labourers started returning home from metropolitan cities of India where their population is sizeable as they don't find employment in this province. The incumbent government showed worst possible leadership in times of COVID19 and let the people suffer till they perished. Now that government is asking for votes from people. This chief minister has been in the power for 15 years and now he is tired and angry and all his misdemeanors he displays in election tours. Tomorrow Bihar goes to its last phase of polls and on 10th of this month there will be results. The Indian premier Narendra Modi is an ally of the enervated chief minister and had campaigned hard in order to convas people's support. The alliance like any other political alliances in India is unholy as it is based upon opportunistic approach to politics. In India Politics remains a dirty game and democracy is an excuse for all that goes bad . 

There is nothing like development in Bihar and hence people mostly vote along their caste line as caste is the most prominent identity in this province. The party that gives a tough chase to the incumbent chief minister is led by a young chap whose father(chief minister for half a decade and along with his wife ruled this province for 15 years) is in jail on corruption charges. 

The caste composition gives this young chap a thumbs up.

The battle is tight - as tough as that of Donald Trump and Joe Biden!

Bihar once an enlightened land is now a land often invoked in bad contexts as recently done in a column in THE NEW YORK TIMES about the bad management of the USA by TRUMP .
